Managing School Schedules & Migraines: Tips for Smooth Transitions

Living with daily migraines can be challenging, and one of the toughest aspects is keeping your schedule on track.

While summer may bring some relief with fewer commitments, the return to school can disrupt routines and exacerbate pain.

If you can relate to this struggle, you are not alone.

Here are some simple but effective strategies to help alleviate the impact the school year may have on your migraines and keep things running smoothly.

#1 - Involve your kids: Getting your children to lend a hand can make a significant difference. Even young ones can assist in making snacks or packing lunches. It may take some initial effort to teach them, but over time, they'll become more proficient, and you'll be fostering their independence and life skills.

#2 - Plan ahead: Preparation is key. Set aside time in the evenings to select outfits for the next day, take evening showers to save time in the morning, and set the breakfast table before going to bed.  Enlist help from family members to distribute the workload and make tasks more manageable.

#3 - Embrace imperfection: Letting go of perfectionism can relieve unnecessary stress. Remember that it's okay if things don't go perfectly. Focus your energy on essential tasks, and don't sweat the small stuff. If your child wears the same shirt for two days in a row, it's not the end of the world. Prioritize what needs to be done and let go of unnecessary expectations.

#4 - Learn what triggers the migraine symptoms that waste your precious time. Our clients do this through our Migraine Success Tracker. They gather data which is then analyzed by a success coach to see where time is being wasted - allowing them to concentrate on what they actually need to do, like find their kids missing books!!

As the school year approaches or is already underway, managing your migraines while juggling family responsibilities can seem overwhelming.  However, by implementing these strategies, you can help minimize the impact and create a smoother transition

Remember, the ultimate goal is to find long-term relief from migraines, but in the meantime, these tips can provide some support. You can also check out our tools page for ideas on how to make your migraine freedom journey a little easier.

I’d love to hear about any additional strategies you use to navigate the school year and alleviate your school-related migraines.

Debbie will uncover what is holding them back from migraine freedom so they can live their life pain and symptom free, work productively, spend the time they want with family and friends, and stop missing out on the things they enjoy.

A message from Debbie:
"I was once right where you are now.  100% believing there was NO WAY to end migraines and my only option was to learn how to live with them or find that magic pill that maybe would work for a while.  If anyone told me back then that I could end my pain once and for all, I would have called BS and popped another pill!

Skeptical times 10  was my middle name for sure because when you try it all and everyone tells you they can help you and they don’t.   You stop believing…  you lose HOPE!

I now realize I was approaching my migraines all backward.

I was trying to cover up symptoms versus trying to end my pain."
