Stress, Migraines, and You: Unpacking the Connection

We all know ‘stress.’ It’s a universal experience that gnaws at all of us at different points in our lives. It’s that relentless force that creeps up on us, making everyday tasks that much harder. It doesn't just hit us mentally or emotionally. It takes a toll on our bodies too. In this blog post, we’re unpacking the connection between stress and migraines so you know how to minimize pain and live migraine-free.

The Flight Or Fight ResponseHere’s what happens when we’re stressed: When we feel threatened or overwhelmed, our body kicks into “fight or flight” mode. Stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline flood through our system, messing with everything from our blood pressure to our digestion. Not much fun, right?

Our ancestors had the same reaction, but for them, it made sense. They needed that overload and that metabolic "turbo boost" to escape predators or overcome immediate threats. For us, it's a different story.

The Problem with Chronic Stress

The biggest problem occurs when our stress becomes chronic. That constant racing pulse and that "always on-edge" feeling is your body's response stuck on repeat, and it's not good for your health.

Chronic stress weakens our immune system, clouds our memory, speeds up signs of aging, and surprisingly, it reduces our migraine threshold.

Stress and Migraines
Now, let’s talk about the tricky part of this stress and migraine connection. Stress triggers inflammation in our bodies, including our brain. For us women, this is particularly noteworthy because this inflammation can lead to migraines.

So how do we switch our relationship with stress to avoid painful migraines?

The answer is… the Migraine Freedom Protocol™.

The Migraine Freedom Protocol™
With the Migraine Freedom Protocol™, we can learn to navigate stress differently. Instead of letting it slip into a chronic state, we’ll tackle it head-on. We learn to modulate our mindsets so we keep our stress in the 'acute state,' which helps us manage our *migraines. This shift can create a significant difference in our lives.

Chronic stress might seem like the Ghost of Christmas past in the room that we can't shoo away. But believe me, we can learn how to build a better relationship with stress.

Exercise, getting more sunlight, practicing gratitude - these are just a few ways we can transform stress from a trigger into a manageable part of our lives.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Debbie Waidl is the Owner of In The Balance Health Coaching LLC, and Founder of The Freedom From Migraines Method™   & The Migraine Freedom Protocol™
She supports busy moms living with Migraines.

Debbie will uncover what is holding them back from migraine freedom so they can live their life pain and symptom free, work productively, spend the time they want with family and friends, and stop missing out on the things they enjoy.

A message from Debbie:
"I was once right where you are now.  100% believing there was NO WAY to end migraines and my only option was to learn how to live with them or find that magic pill that maybe would work for a while.  If anyone told me back then that I could end my pain once and for all, I would have called BS and popped another pill!

Skeptical times 10  was my middle name for sure because when you try it all and everyone tells you they can help you and they don’t.   You stop believing…  you lose HOPE!

I now realize I was approaching my migraines all backward.

I was trying to cover up symptoms versus trying to end my pain."
