Unmasking the Truth Behind Menstrual or Cycle Migraines

I know you are very familiar with this topic and dread experiencing it every month… menstrual or cycle migraines. Contrary to popular belief, a migraine is a migraine, regardless of the numerous names we assign them: vestibular, cycle, menstrual, silent, sinus, hemipelagic, abdominal, and ocular. These are all migraines and they originate from the same root cause: chronic inflammation. In this blog post, we’re referring to them as “cycle migraines” and unmasking the truth behind them to help you find the much-needed relief you’ve been seeking.

The Monthly Dread of Cycle Migraines

This scenario is painfully familiar for some: marking dates on your calendar only to dread the upcoming period accompanied by its unwelcome partner, the migraine.

The migraine, unfortunately, arrives like clockwork with the cycle, often being worse than others experienced during the month. It feels far from fair having to deal with PMS and migraines simultaneously.

Post-Menopause: Myth vs. Reality

Although the allure of relief through menopause may be compelling, let's debunk a myth: most women notice an increase, not a decrease, in migraines post-menopause.

Instead of hoping for menopause as a solution, it's key that we strive to understand the root causes of migraines and address them, just like Kathy and Jennifer have.

Kathy shares, “All my hormones have evened out. I too, like so many who are just beginning this group went through a lot of hot flashes, and it took me a while to figure out it was part of my body’s healing process. The biggest hormone for me that I didn’t even know was a hormone, but has totally leveled out is my insulin situation! I was headed towards being a type two diabetic like everyone else in my family. I am now consistently seeing blood sugars under 100 often. I did not realize when you start a lifestyle change program such as this the magnitude of other issues that suddenly all are within control!”

Jennifer said, “I have 3 HUGE wins for the week!!! 1st I finished the modules, 2nd I slept 7.5 hours last night, 3rd I made it through my entire period without having to take anything for pain!!!”

Understanding the Root Causes

Statistics from various trusted sources including the Cleveland Clinic, National Migraine Centre, and the American Migraine Foundation affirm the strong correlation between migraines and menstrual cycles.

Intriguingly, we always seem to veer towards blaming sex hormones, especially the steep decline of estrogen levels right before the period. But is this the complete story?

Hormones aren't the sole culprits behind migraines; they merely represent the 'last straw.'

The Bucket Analogy: Managing Migraine Triggers

Consider this analogy: every exposure to a migraine trigger adds water to a metaphorical 'bucket.' With enough triggers, the bucket overflows, manifesting as a migraine.

The monthly cycle significantly fills this 'bucket,' thereby requiring us to keep the 'bucket' as empty as possible to handle the impact it has on our Migraine Threshold.

Chronic migraines require root cause solutions, not fleeting 'band aid fixes' that risk future health complications.

Seeking Root Cause Solutions

It's crucial to remember that our bodies need the correct tools and support to function optimally and stay healthy.

Quick temporary fixes like HRT or the birth control pill aren't enough; we need to understand and address the core issues.

Implementing Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) and taking the birth control pill, like all decisions, should be made only after understanding the deeper needs of our body, not as a quick fix.

Moreover, the idea that taking HRT is a definitive solution may not always hold true.

Also, those contemplating drastic measures like hysterectomy are encouraged to take a moment and listen to what their body is trying to communicate before undergoing such a procedure.

She supports busy moms living with Migraines.

Debbie will uncover what is holding them back from migraine freedom so they can live their life pain and symptom free, work productively, spend the time they want with family and friends, and stop missing out on the things they enjoy.

A message from Debbie:
"I was once right where you are now.  100% believing there was NO WAY to end migraines and my only option was to learn how to live with them or find that magic pill that maybe would work for a while.  If anyone told me back then that I could end my pain once and for all, I would have called BS and popped another pill!

Skeptical times 10  was my middle name for sure because when you try it all and everyone tells you they can help you and they don’t.   You stop believing…  you lose HOPE!

I now realize I was approaching my migraines all backward.

I was trying to cover up symptoms versus trying to end my pain."
