What is the cost of a migraine?

You’ve spent $$$ on these things over and over again to try to end your migraine pain.

Well meaning friends, google searches, and doctors suggest you explore them to end your migraine pain and being desperate for relief you shell out the $ hoping for the pain to end.

What are we talking about…

massage for migraine, chiropractic treatment for migraine, and physical therapy for migraine.

So why are they not successful at fully ending our pain?

Sometimes they offer a short term relief but more often than not cause more pain.   The simple answer boils down to the physical manipulation of your neck during these appointments.   Such actions can provoke the nerves in the back of your head, inciting inflammation and, surprisingly, leading to a migraine.

Quite the paradox, isn't it?

Now, this draws attention to an important aspect - in most people suffering from migraines, neck and occasionally shoulder pain is often a precursor, or 'prodrome,' to a migraine.   This implies that it's the migraine causing the neck/shoulder pain, not vice versa.   It's crucial to pay attention not just to your pain, but also its timings.

Typically, neck pain associated with migraine makes its presence felt around the same time or slightly before other migraine symptoms (like fatigue, nausea, light sensitivity) kick in.   This pain tends to melt away as your migraine subsides, which would be true whether you pop pills or simply wait it out.

And what about those of you battling frequent migraines? Your neck pain might feel like an unwelcome guest, overstaying its welcome and lingering even in between migraines.   This was me 24/7.  Some days the neck pain was worse than the head pain… and yeah I did massage therapy, physical therapy and chiropractic care for YEARS!

Spending so much money on things that only gave me a short few hours of relief.

why some treatments do not help your migraine

Don't let your neck continuously be a battlefield, or you might be doing more harm than good by persistently messing with the nerves.  While massage, chiropractics, and physical therapy offer numerous benefits and are great parts of a health program, they aren't the silver bullet to ending migraines if that’s your goal.  These therapies mainly address symptoms and provide short term relief, but they don't always dig down to the root cause.

Like a plant wilting from its roots, mere leaf treatment won't suffice.

You have to address the root issue!

Migraines require a recognizing and dealing strategy that targets their origin, going beyond mere symptom management.  Always remember to listen to your bodies and make well-informed decisions based on facts.

A message from Debbie:
"I was once right where you are now.  100% believing there was NO WAY to end migraines and my only option was to learn how to live with them or find that magic pill that maybe would work for a while.  If anyone told me back then that I could end my pain once and for all, I would have called BS and popped another pill!

Skeptical times 10  was my middle name for sure because when you try it all and everyone tells you they can help you and they don’t.   You stop believing…  you lose HOPE!

I now realize I was approaching my migraines all backward.

I was trying to cover up symptoms versus trying to end my pain."
