Head Injury Aftermath: Navigating Life After Head Injury Migraines

Welcome to another Q&A week where we dive into the migraine and health questions that are important to you!

Marie asks:

"I have a head injury, so I've been told I will always have migraines. I keep hopping from med to med with no results, and I don’t know what to do now."

You’re Not Alone

First of all, Marie, I hear you. I hear the frustration, the hopelessness, and the exhaustion in your words. It’s hard when you feel like your doctor, someone you’ve trusted, is telling you there’s no hope, that this is just your life now. It can feel like a life sentence.

And while I’m not here to discredit your doctor, I do want to remind you of something important: most traditional doctors have zero training in nutrition, often work closely with pharmaceutical companies, and generally aren’t trained in functional medicine. That doesn’t make them bad doctors, but it does mean they might not have the full picture when it comes to treating issues like migraines.

Different Tools for Different Jobs

Both Eastern and Western medicine can be powerful tools, and it’s up to us to use them in the right way for the right situations.

If you break a leg, Western medicine is exactly what you need. But chronic migraines? That’s a different story.

Migraines are often a sign of an inflammatory network breakdown, which is where Eastern medicine excels. With its focus on whole-body healing and restoring balance, it can offer insights and strategies that Western medicine sometimes overlooks.

There Is Hope for Change

Let me share something with you, from personal experience and from watching it happen time and time again: you can make a difference in how you feel. You can take steps that positively impact your migraines.

Now, am I promising 100% relief? No. That wouldn’t be realistic. But what if you could reduce your migraines by 80%? Or even 50%? Wouldn’t that be better than zero?

Let Go of All-or-Nothing Thinking

Sometimes we get stuck in this all-or-nothing mindset. If something doesn’t fix everything, we tell ourselves it’s not worth doing. And we do this all the time, don’t we?

If we can’t work out every day, we stop exercising altogether. If we can’t cut out sugar completely, we feel like we’ve failed. If a treatment won’t eliminate migraines completely, we think, “Why even bother?”

But I’d ask you this: why wouldn’t you bother?

Even a 50% improvement could mean more time spent doing the things you love. It might mean going on more family vacations. Maybe being able to work a part-time job. Maybe having the energy to watch your grandkids one day a week without pain holding you back.

What Would 15 Pain-Free Days Mean to You?

Let’s break it down. If you’re someone who has migraines every single day, 30 migraines a month, cutting that number in half means you now have 15 pain-free days.

Can you imagine that? Fifteen days a month, where you can actually live your life?

And here’s the most exciting part: 50% isn’t the limit. That’s just the starting point. What if you could do even better?

Final Thoughts

Marie, I understand your frustration and where you’re coming from. But I’ll leave you with this question:

What do you have to lose?

Your body is incredibly resilient. There are tools and strategies out there that can help. You just have to be willing to explore them.

Debbie will uncover what is holding them back from migraine freedom so they can live their life pain and symptom free, work productively, spend the time they want with family and friends, and stop missing out on the things they enjoy.

A message from Debbie:
"I was once right where you are now.  100% believing there was NO WAY to end migraines and my only option was to learn how to live with them or find that magic pill that maybe would work for a while.  If anyone told me back then that I could end my pain once and for all, I would have called BS and popped another pill!

Skeptical times 10  was my middle name for sure because when you try it all and everyone tells you they can help you and they don’t.   You stop believing…  you lose HOPE!

I now realize I was approaching my migraines all backward.

I was trying to cover up symptoms versus trying to end my pain."
